Our Activities

We have a full medieval tavern display and our group represents real cuisine from the era, but also show the daily life of everyday folk.

The tavern was a central meeting point for the community. Both men and women would gather to drink wine, and homebrewed ale. A place of gathering very much like the pub or cafe of today. The same dialogue and interaction occured.
The distinction of word generally implies a 'place of drink'. It would be a large structure with often the possibility of lodgings. Renowned for attracting all walks of society.
Gambling would be common and other games would be played to pass the long ights in good company.

Interiors were makeshift affairs with tressle tables, which could be easily put up or down. The word of the period was 'board', thus giving the reasoning behind the expression 'room and board'.
For seating, there would be benches or 'forms', and a few stools. The only chair would belong to the master of the Tavern. It may have been a common shared space or a dedicated area. It would become a focal point especially for travellers and visitors.
Full Show
We have a programme readily designed which can cover a whole day (approx 8hrs), with interactive shows, informative sessions, and displays of arms and crafts. The health and safety and conformity of the site will be dealt with onsite and in conjunction with local authorities. Our shows can be adapted to your own schedules or be a central point for any function. It normally consists of Arms displays, List combat, full scale battle (including Archery, and Horsemanship if possible), Livestock, Tavern, Arts & Crafts, and much more.
We have organised camping events, which promote the social interactivity of the group. Cooking over an open fire is an art form, which still produces some wonder flavours. During events a full array of medieval wares are on display.

Combat reenactment
Our archery range is set up for all ages. We encourage the public to come and draw their bows to feel how it would have been to face a charging man at arms on horseback armed with a long bow. Our team of experts are present to show you how it's done. We use longbows, compositebows and crossbows. The archery team practice rigourously to enhance their art, and are always prepared to demonstrate their prowess. Archery in some instances was imposed on the public of the era in a way to reduce gambling, but also to maintain a ready levvy of men who were trained. The welsh lngbowmen are renowned for the devastating effect on the French mounted charge at Agencourt.
During the high medieval period, feudal power was more often than not resolved at the point fo a sword. Although standing armies were still a while off, men at arms would have been employed to defend strongholds, as well as impose feaudal rights. In malta, there would have been a small garrison under the Norman Sicilian overloards, and due to the constant years of piracy and invasion, no doubt the local population would have had some form of arms. Anakron Living History produces a full blown skirmish, displaying various medieval units. Although, it is not based on an actual event, the aim is to show the public how the units would have worked together. Our three base units are Pike, Pavise, Spear, supported by cavalry and archers.
